In The Dark
A Flash Fiction Prompt
Hello Friends of the Pond!
As you may have noticed, we’ve been away. This past mid-summer moon marked the once in a generation celebration of our turtle heritage. We went to the hundred year gathering of the Ancient Order of Pond Wanderers. Turtles from all nations gather together, to speak our language and listen to Grand Master Tortoise read from the ancient scrolls of turtle secrets. Of course we also party as only the half-shells can!
We heard there was a sighting of one gorgeously luminescent and mysterious turtle. We believe it must have been
, but they disappeared before we could confirm!Thank you for hanging around while we were away.
Without you, the pond wouldn’t be fun.
In celebration of our return, we’ve decided to share a moonlit prompt.
Please share your stories in the response link either here or in the subchat.
We hope you will dive in!
We will share your stories on Friday, August 15
PROMPT: In The Dark
Genre: Open
300 words or more.
Hot, humid nights herald the fall as summer comes to a close. Dark skies hold so much more than the stars, and shadows move amongst the trees. Clouds grow heavy with rain and thick mist stills the air. In a far distant field a glowing light appears.
Tell us a story about light in the dark or shadows revealed only by the moon.

Oh, good one!
I sat staring at the moon, wondering if somewhere out there my estranged son ever looked up at the same orb. We may be miles apart, but knowing we both are creative individuals perhaps, he is gazing at it and thinking of me? Sometimes even the most simplest thing hanging in the heavens makes me feel close to Matthew again.
